ADDITIONAL BOOTH ELEMENTS, STRATEGICALLY AND INGENEOUSLY TYING IT ALL TOGETHERThe booth also featured a theater with a 103" plasma, utilized for presentations. Paradigm designed and scripted a ten minute presentation which intricately described the benefits of the Blu-ray format and its expansive capabilities. Additionally, we hired and trained the presenters and booth staff. Paradigm dressed the booth with various plasmas, each showcasing different clips of Blu-ray exclusive releases. We also designed custom Moss hanging signs, one of which was a 34' long/6' tall serpentine sign representing a giant film strip, which highlighted the variety of Blu-ray films available from each of the participating studios. Additionally, we managed several staged press interviews within the booth for various Blu-ray Disc Association executives. Keeping the schedule, prior to each meeting, an area of the booth was dressed and set up to accommodate the interview. THE OVERALL EXPERIENCEThe booth was by far the most talked about and eye-catching at the convention. A combination of superior design, creative use of various props and permeation of technology, the Blu-ray booth was a constant draw for the 200,000+ attendees. In fact, Gizmodo.com named us second in their list of top ten booths. FACTORS IMPORTANT TO THE BOOTH'S OVERALL SUCCESS/UNIQUE CHALLENGESWorking hard to ensure the booth did not look like a "corporate garage sale," Paradigm took established brands and successfully blended them together under the Blu-ray umbrella messaging to provide a consistent look for the booth. Even though the space was a sufficient size, the combined quantity and volume of the elements that needed to be incorporated into the booth barely fit within its regulated parameters. Thus, Paradigm had to meticulously, yet artistically place each item so everything would fit in the booth in a way that made sense and was also visually striking. Technically, Paradigm was tasked to bring together various platforms into one working unit. Because the Blu-ray technology is a living, interactive entity, there are a lot of additional requirements that need to be met in order to get it up and running properly. Technologically speaking, this was not a plug and go operation - we had to coordinate different interfacings with each distinctive platform, output, format, etc., along with specifically plotting all cables, power, internet and lighting to guarantee a smooth, glitch-free system. Logistically, in addition to the coordination of the numerous booth partners and vendors, Paradigm had to schedule the delivery and install of the giant ship (which was made up of three very large parts that needed to be delivered via three flatbed semis). Working closely with convention freight services, we developed an extremely intricate plan and schedule to load in the ship without disturbing surrounding booth areas/materials, along with strategically planning placement (from the semi directly into the booth) so the ship fit exactly where it needed to be without extending beyond booth space restrictions and without interrupting other booth items. Because we were using stage four forklifts to transfer the ship, prior placement planning and efficient execution was extremely important. NEW TECHNOLOGYThe booth environment highlighted next-generation interactive options that employ internet connectivity via BD Live. One kiosk that was a continuous hot spot was Fox's BD Live demo station, featuring the Alien VS. Predator VS. You game. |
